Personal Profile

Nathan Bech is a lifelong resident of Western Massachusetts, raised in Springfield and West Springfield. A graduate of West Springfield High School, he spent his senior year as a Rotary exchange student in India before attending Colgate University, where he earned a BA in Political Science.

Bech has served in the United States Army for decades, beginning in the Army Reserves as a Russian linguist before becoming a Military Intelligence officer. Commissioned through Officer Candidate School, he served with the Tenth Mountain Division and deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. Continuing his service in the Army Reserves in Civil Affairs, he has completed multiple additional deployments across Afghanistan, Africa, and Europe and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In public service, Bech served three terms on the West Springfield Town Council from 2016 to 2021. Earlier, in 2013, he successfully led a grassroots campaign to stop a proposed casino in West Springfield, defeating a $1.5 million campaign by Hard Rock with just $15,000 in local fundraising.
