2nd AMENDMENT

Nathan Bech believes that the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is a fundamental, individual Constitutional right. We must not take away the rights of some communities because of problems in others. Law abiding citizens should not be asked to give up their rights because of criminals - criminals who ignore gun control laws anyway.

Gun Manufacturer Liability
Nathan Bech knows that firearms manufacturing is a historically important industry in Western Massachusetts and opposes attempts to restrict Second Amendment rights by holding gun manufacturers liable for crimes committed by third parties using a firearm. Nathan will vote to protect gun manufacturers from such inappropriate liability aimed at bankrupting the entire gun industry.
Weapon & Ammunition Bans
Nathan Bech believes in the rights of legal and responsible gun owners to hunt, shoot for sport, collect and defend themselves. He does not believe that bans for specific types of firearms or ammunition are effective in keeping criminals from using such weapons in the commission of a crime.   He believes we should focus on prosecuting illegal gun owners and those who commit gun related crimes.
Criminal Background Checks
Nathan Bech supports instant criminal background checks to help prohibit criminals and the mentally ill from buying firearms and supports their increased thoroughness and efficiency, without infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens.   Technology should allow us to preserve gun shows by standardizing sales procedures. Nathan supports legislation that would require an instant criminal background check for all sales at gun shows and believes that such checks must be conducted quickly to ensure that unnecessary delays do not effectively block transactions.
Stiffer Penalties for Criminals who use a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime
Nathan Bech believes in strict penalties for criminals who use a firearm in the commission of a crime or illegally possess a firearm. Enforcing the current laws on the books is the best way to deter crime.
